The air in the small, dimly lit office makes it hard for you to breathe. The source of the unpleasant haze seems to be a smouldering cigar resting in an ashtray on the old wooden desk.
“This is the man we're looking for.” says the elderly man sitting behind the desk, showing you a photograph of a professor of archaeology who has been missing for two months.
“His name is Nathan Jones, and he's a professor at the University of Boston.”
He tosses a yellow folder towards you, gesturing for you to open it.
“He spent the last year researching a recent archaeological discovery from a small, remote and long-forgotten village in the north. Three months ago, the professor decided to visit the village himself, despite his assistant's objections. From their limited contact with the villagers, it was apparent that something was wrong. The community seemed strangely isolated, as though it had remained frozen in another era.”
Inside the folder, you find newspaper clippings, photographs and a small hand-drawn map. A village has been circled in red, and beneath it, a name is written in the same colour: LOCKHILL. The man falls silent, fixes his gaze upon you and exhales a thick cloud of cigar smoke.
“It's been two months since the university last heard from him... Go to Lockhill and find out what happened.”
He pauses for a moment before continuing.
“Once you arrive, I've arranged for you to meet someone who can help. You'll find everything you need in the folder.”
